Blizzard announces BlizzCon 2008

Published by sallen77 at 9:24 pm under gaming, news, world of warcraft Edit This

Blizzard Entertainment announced it will be holding Blizzcon 2008, the third iteration of its popular gaming convention. Located at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., the event will take place Oct. 11 and 11.

To accomodate the growing number of people who want to attend the event, Blizzard has added an additional convention hall, up from last BlizzCon’s two.
Events to take place at the two-day convention include:

  • Hands-on play time with upcoming Blizzard Entertainment releases
  • Discussion panels with Blizzard Entertainment developers
  • Competitive and casual tournaments for players to showcase their talents
  • Areas and activities devoted to licensed products such as the World of Warcraft® Trading Card Game
  • Costume, machinima, and character sound-alike contests with great prizes
  • Commemorative merchandise based on the Blizzard Entertainment franchises
  • A silent auction
  • And more

Tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks and will go for $100 per person. Further details will be available on the official BlizzCon website: www.blizzcon.com.

The event is touted as a celebration of the global player communities surrounded Blizzard’s popular gaming franchises: StarCraft, Warcraft and Diablo. As an East Coast fan, I have to admit, if its a celebration of the global player community, shake it up a bit - hold it outside of California! Make it a traveling event… one year West Coast, one year East Coast, one year smack dab in the middle of the country, go outside the U.S.!

Yes, I realize its easier for them, based in California and all… but I can’t imagine they couldn’t afford to take it on road a bit. Truly share it with your global community!
